Tevez, or not Tevez, that is the question... (Part II)

Sorry for the delay. Here are the cons.

Cons:

First and foremost: $$$$. Tevez is likely to cost a record sum, and when we look at the pros and his strike rate I just don't see that it is justified. Yes he is young, something I forgot to mention in the pros, but not young enough to be considered a prospect.

We all know what Tevez is capable of through his demonstration two season ago when he single handedly saved West Ham from the drop. But similar to Robbie Keane there is the possibility that Tevez just isn't up to being a player in a scheme rather than the go-to man all of the time. I think last season he demonstrated that he can play with the players on Manchester United, but as soon as his game time diminished on account of Berbatov, either his confidence changed or the system changed enough to put him off his stride. It's sad to see such an integral part of last season's campaign.

The synthesis of my thoughts is this: I don't think he is worth what they are asking for.

Post any pros or cons I missed and whether you think Man U should shell out for him.

  1. Alright here is my opinion: Tevez is a great player with a terrific work rate. He is certainly not worth 30 million (especially after shelling out 30 for Berba). He has saved Man Utd on numerous occasions this year and is capable of scoring stunning goals. The major point to be made is that he will never be clinical enough in front of goal to start regularly for United, and no team in the world (Not even Man City) will shell out 20-30 million for a player to sit on the bench. That is one reason why Tevez will not play for Man Utd next season unless MSI (The absolutely ridiculous company that owns his rights) is willing to significantly lower their demands, which they have no reason to do since there are plenty of willing suitors for Tevez.

The other issue is that Tevez is visibly upset with Man Utd for their "low" valuation of him. It has been reported that Man Utd will not spend the extra 5 million pounds to keep him, and Tevez is very angry as a result. Although he has a great relationship with the fans, I see no evidence that he is willing to stay at a club that he claims have disrespected him as a player, simply because the fans chant "Argentina" every time he hustles after the ball. That is reason #2 why Tevez will not stay at Man Utd.

Finally, with the emergence of Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda, and Frazier Campbell, as well as the incoming Adem Ljejic and potentially Frank Ribery and Luis Antonio Valencia, Utd are not short of options in attack. This is the third reason why Tevez will not stay at United.

It is an unfortunate situation because Tevez is a fantastic player and a model professional, but the reality is he will not remain at Man U. As for likely suitors, I have heard everything from Liverpool to Inter Milan, but if you ask me Tevez will actually end up staying in Manchester and playing for City next season. He has said that he and his family love life in Manchester, and it seems that City might be the only club willing to spend the asking price for Carlitos.

  2. I agree with everything you said, but my money is on him joining Real Madrid.

  3. I think United should pay to keep him. What makes United the best side in the world is their depth; they are able to give players rests without dropping the level of play at all. If Rooney needs a day off, Tevez starts, which is an amazing luxury to have.
The problem with letting him go is, these rising youngsters--Welbeck, Macheda, Campbell--are simply not as good as Tevez. Once United starts making concessions in their "second" unit, they will drop more points. For example, suppose in a week where United plays Chelsea on Saturday, has Champions league on Wednesday and plays against Hull on the following Saturday. Tevez would not get much playing time in the first two games, but would start the game against Hull. United would still, while giving their world-class strikers a rest, put a world-class striker on the field. Putting Campbell or Welbeck on the field instead of Tevez is a significant drop in quality and one that would probably lead to a game or two where United are surprised by a lesser side and drop points.
